Report on the One day District Level YRC student study camp

A One day district level YRC Students study camp for the Engineering colleges located in Thiruvannamai, Vellore and Villupuram Districts was conducted successfully on 13.02.2010 with the financial assistance from the Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch.

The following Colleges participated in the Programme.

The Programme was conducted @ University Colege of Engineering Arni. Dr.G. Senthil Kumar, Dean i/c & Dr. G. Ramesh Kumar District Organizer / YRC Programme Officer of the Institution have welcomed the participants and guests. The programme was greatly started with the welcome address of our Dean i/c. The presence of Dr.B.Kumar YRC Co - Ordinator , Anna University Chennai graced the function and he has inaugurated the YRC activity in the institution. He has also delivered the inaugural address and all the delegates in the dais have paid their floral tribute to the portrait of J. Henry Dunant, the father of Red Cross.

The first session was totally devoted for YRC history / movement. Prof. Mrs. Ameenal Bibi, the district organizer of vellore graced the function and acted as resource person for the above said topic. The origin and development of the movement, emergence & need of YRC, service of Red Cross during war and peace time and during natural calamities etc., were focused.

The topic for the second session was on the “Awareness about the High Risk behaviour”, and the resource person was Mr. C. Rajendiran, the district manager Red Ribbon club, Thiruvannamalai District. He enlightened the participants about the HIV virus and the consequences of AIDS. The ways and means of the disease being spread to the children was also elaborated to the gathering. Pamphlets on the uses of blood donation / Preventive measures to control AIDS were also distributed.

In the third session Mr.V. Govindasamy, Sub – Inspector of Police (Traffic), Traffic Police stations, Arni delivered a lecture on Road user’s safety and the rules to be followed both by two wheeler riders / heavy vehicle riders as well as by the pedestrians were also discussed.

The last but not the least, the fourth session was well handled by the personnel of Fire and Rescue services, Arni. The fire expert team was headed by Mr. G. Venugopal, Fire officer, Fire station, Arni. The team has given a live mock demonstration on the usage of fire extinguishers and various rescue methods. All the participants were thrilled and enchanted. Indeed, all the participants were much benefited by the programme conducted on whole day.

At the end of the programme, Dr. G. Senthil Kumar, Dean i/c, University College of Engineering Arni, distributed certificates to the participants.

Dr. G. Ramesh Kumar, the YRC programme officer delivered his whole hearted thanks to all invitees for making the event as a successful one.

With the mass singing National Anthem, the programme came to end.
